Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Journal of Computer Science and Research (JoCoSiR) recognizes the rapid development and increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in academic research and scholarly publishing. This policy is established to promote the responsible, transparent, ethical, and accountable use of AI-assisted technologies throughout the publication process.

1. Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted tools to support limited aspects of manuscript preparation, such as improving grammar, language, readability, translation, or organizing ideas. However, AI tools must not replace the intellectual contribution, critical analysis, interpretation, or scholarly responsibility of the authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, validity, and reliability of all content submitted to JoCoSiR, regardless of whether AI-assisted technologies were used during manuscript preparation.

Authors must carefully review and verify any AI-generated or AI-assisted content before submitting their manuscript.

2. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must transparently disclose the use of Generative AI tools when such tools have contributed substantially to the preparation or development of the manuscript.

The disclosure should include, where applicable:

  • the name of the AI tool or system used;

  • the purpose for which the AI tool was used; and

  • the extent to which AI contributed to the manuscript.

Routine use of spelling checkers, grammar correction tools, reference-management software, or other conventional assistive technologies generally does not require disclosure when these tools do not generate substantive scholarly content.

3. AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

Artificial Intelligence tools, Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, and other AI systems cannot be listed or credited as authors or co-authors.

Authorship requires accountability for the work, approval of the final manuscript, responsibility for research integrity, and the ability to respond to questions concerning the accuracy and validity of the research. AI systems cannot fulfill these responsibilities.

Therefore, all listed authors must be human contributors who satisfy the journal's authorship requirements.

4. Accuracy and Verification

Authors must independently verify information generated or suggested by AI tools.

AI-generated content may contain inaccurate information, fabricated references, incorrect citations, misleading interpretations, or other errors. Authors are therefore responsible for ensuring that:

  • all references and citations are genuine and verifiable;

  • data and statistical results are accurate;

  • quotations correspond to their original sources;

  • interpretations are supported by appropriate evidence; and

  • AI-generated statements do not introduce misleading or fabricated information.

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for errors from the author to the AI provider or tool.

5. AI-Generated Images, Data, and Research Results

Authors must not use Generative AI to fabricate, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, experimental results, observations, figures, images, or other evidence presented as authentic research findings.

AI-generated or AI-modified images, figures, datasets, source code, or other materials must be clearly identified when their use is relevant to the research methodology or findings.

The use of AI technologies as an object of study, research method, computational tool, algorithm, or experimental component is permitted when appropriately described in the methodology and conducted according to accepted research standards.

6. Originality and Academic Integrity

The use of AI tools does not exempt authors from JoCoSiR's requirements concerning originality, plagiarism, copyright, research ethics, and academic integrity.

Authors must ensure that AI-assisted content does not reproduce copyrighted material, improperly paraphrase existing publications, fabricate sources, or constitute plagiarism.

Manuscripts may be rejected or retracted when inappropriate use of AI results in serious violations of publication ethics or research integrity.

7. Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and all materials received during the peer-review process.

Reviewers should not upload unpublished manuscripts, supplementary materials, confidential research data, or identifiable manuscript content into public or third-party Generative AI systems when doing so may compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or data protection.

AI tools must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment. Reviewers remain personally responsible for the content, accuracy, fairness, and recommendations contained in their review reports.

8. Use of AI by Editors

Editors must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of manuscripts throughout the editorial process.

Editors should not upload confidential or unpublished manuscript content into external Generative AI systems when this could compromise confidentiality, copyright, intellectual property, or personal data.

Editorial decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts must remain under human responsibility. AI systems must not independently make final editorial decisions.

9. Responsibility and Accountability

Authors, reviewers, and editors remain accountable for their respective contributions and decisions even when AI-assisted technologies are used.

JoCoSiR considers human oversight, transparency, accountability, confidentiality, and research integrity fundamental principles in the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in scholarly publishing.

10. Violations of the AI Policy

If the editorial team identifies suspected misuse of AI, including fabricated references, fabricated data, undisclosed substantial AI-generated content, manipulation of research results, breach of manuscript confidentiality, or other unethical practices, JoCoSiR may conduct further investigation.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may take appropriate editorial action, including:

  • requesting clarification or correction from the authors;

  • requesting disclosure of AI use;

  • returning the manuscript for revision;

  • rejecting the manuscript;

  • correcting a published article; or

  • retracting an article when serious research-integrity violations are confirmed.

Any investigation and editorial action will be conducted in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and applicable scholarly publishing standards.

11. Policy Updates

Artificial Intelligence technologies and international standards concerning their use in scholarly publishing continue to develop rapidly. Therefore, Journal of Computer Science and Research (JoCoSiR) reserves the right to review and update this AI Policy periodically to maintain alignment with developments in research integrity, publication ethics, and responsible AI practices.
